Dermal Fillers

Restore Volume. Enhance Your Features. Still Look Like You.

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore or add volume, soften the appearance of certain lines and folds, and enhance facial contours. At MQ Institute, filler treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Every plan is based on your facial anatomy, proportions, movement, treatment history and aesthetic goals.

Our approach focuses on balance rather than simply adding volume. The goal is to create subtle, natural-looking enhancement while preserving the features that make you look like you.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable medical products placed beneath or within the skin to create volume or contour in specific areas. Different fillers use different materials and have different properties, FDA-approved indications, injection depths and expected durations. Hyaluronic acid is commonly used in many aesthetic fillers, while other FDA-approved filler materials also exist.

Your MQ Institute provider evaluates your anatomy and goals before selecting a product and treatment approach. Not every

filler is appropriate for every area or every patient.

Facial Balancing, Not Overfilling

Successful filler treatment is about proportion. Small, strategic changes in one area can influence the overall balance of the face. MQ Institute takes a comprehensive approach, evaluating the face as a whole rather than treating each feature in isolation.

Areas & Concerns We May Treat

  • Cheeks and midface volume
  • Lips and lip definition
  • Chin projection and contour
  • Jawline definition
  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Marionette lines
  • Perioral lines around the mouth
  • Under-eye hollows when an appropriate product and patient are selected
  • Other facial contour or volume concerns when clinically appropriate

FDA-approved indications vary by filler product. Do not imply that every filler is approved for every treatment area. Some aesthetic uses may be off-label and should be discussed appropriately by the treating clinician.

What to Expect with Dermal Filler Treatments

Your appointment begins with an assessment of facial anatomy, medical history, previous treatments and goals. Dr. MacQuaid or her Physician Assistant will discuss the proposed treatment areas, product selection, potential benefits, alternatives, expected recovery and important risks before proceeding.

Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur after injection. Final appearance may take time to settle, particularly in areas prone to swelling. Follow-up recommendations depend on the product, treatment area and individual response.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

There is no single duration that applies to all dermal fillers. Longevity varies based on the specific product and material, treatment area, amount injected, facial movement, metabolism and individual response. Your provider can discuss the expected duration of the specific product recommended for you, but no exact duration can be guaranteed.

Important Safety Information

Dermal fillers are medical procedures and can cause side effects. Common reactions can include swelling, bruising, redness, pain, tenderness and itching. Other complications may include infection, lumps or nodules, inflammatory reactions, filler migration or other product- and procedure-specific effects.

Rare but serious complications can occur if filler is unintentionally injected into a blood vessel. Vascular occlusion can cause tissue injury or tissue death and, in rare cases, vision abnormalities including blindness or stroke. Patients should receive treatment from appropriately trained, licensed medical professionals who understand facial anatomy and the recognition and management of complications.

Patients should disclose medical conditions, allergies, prior filler or injectable treatments, medications and supplements, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, active infections, and relevant dental or surgical procedures. Contraindications and warnings differ by product.

Seek urgent medical attention for unusual or severe pain, skin color changes, vision changes, weakness, difficulty speaking or other concerning symptoms following treatment.

Individual Results Vary — No Guarantees

Individual results vary. MQ Institute does not guarantee a particular cosmetic outcome, degree of correction, symmetry, absence of complications or duration of results.

Results depend on anatomy, product selection, amount used, injection technique, treatment area, metabolism, previous procedures and other individual factors. Before-and-after photographs and testimonials represent individual experiences and should not be interpreted as a promise that another patient will achieve the same or similar result.

Who Is a Candidate?

Dermal fillers may be appropriate for adults interested in restoring volume, improving facial balance or enhancing selected features without surgery. Candidacy depends on medical history, anatomy, treatment goals, previous procedures and the specific filler being considered. A consultation is required to determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Dermal Filler FAQs

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable medical products used to add or restore volume, enhance contours, or soften the appearance of certain lines and folds. Different products have different materials, properties and approved uses.

Which filler is right for me?

Product selection depends on your anatomy, treatment area, goals, medical history and the characteristics of the filler. Your provider will recommend an option after an in-person evaluation.

What areas can dermal fillers treat?

Depending on the product and patient, fillers may be used for areas such as the cheeks, lips, chin, jawline and certain facial lines or folds. FDA-approved indications vary by product, and not every filler is appropriate for every area.

When will I see results?

Changes may be visible soon after treatment, but swelling can temporarily alter the appearance. The treated area may require time to settle before the result can be fully evaluated.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Duration varies by filler, treatment area, amount used and individual response. Your provider can discuss typical expectations for the product selected, but an exact duration cannot be guaranteed.

Will I look overfilled?

MQ Institute emphasizes individualized facial balancing and proportion. However, no specific aesthetic result can be guaranteed, and treatment planning is based on your anatomy and goals.

Is there downtime?

Many patients resume normal activities relatively quickly, but swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness can occur. Your provider will give you individualized aftercare instructions.

Are dermal fillers safe?

FDA-approved fillers have known benefits and risks when used appropriately. Complications can occur, including rare but serious vascular complications. Treatment should be performed by appropriately trained medical professionals.

Can filler be dissolved?

Some hyaluronic-acid fillers may be treated with hyaluronidase in certain circumstances. Not all filler materials can be dissolved in the same way, and treatment of complications is individualized.

Can fillers be combined with TOX?

Fillers and neuromodulators address different aesthetic concerns and may sometimes be used as part of the same overall treatment plan when medically appropriate.

Do you offer fillers near Annapolis or Baltimore?

Yes. MQ Institute's Severna Park location serves patients from Annapolis, the greater Baltimore area and surrounding Maryland communities.
